Discussion Topic for Episode 75 - What is Your Favorite FPS Series?

With the coming of Modern Warfare Two in less than ten days, and only a couple of days after the podcast is released next week, we thought we would focus on the genre that puts butts in seats for the video game industry these days. What we are looking for this week is, what is your favorite first person shooter series? Further, why do you like that series specifically, and what would you add or change about it if you could? However if you are not an FPS guy, why don’t you like the genre, and what if anything could developers put in these types of games to make you change them?

Get the answers to us by next Saturday, and your input will be on the cast. i've played my fair share of fps but never really bought to many series titles. so i'll go with the only one that i have more than one of and that would be resistance (even though the second one kind of sucks on weapon system)

Have to say the original Quake. Spent countless hours online over the 36k modem in death match. And then when the original team fortress mod came out whoa! I got little sleep each night for years.
Magic Carpet get's honorable mention for me. Repetitive but brilliant game play, way ahead of its time for 1995 and way overdue for a remake.

The answer to the question feels like a no brainer to me. As a series, it has to be Call of Duty. I can't think of another FPS which has boasted 5 (and soon to be 6 I'm sure) games of such high quality.

For the record, I'm not even that big a fan of COD but respect is due.

Halo, Call of Duty, Killzone 2 (specifically)

I am bigger on third usually Gears of War and Uncharted

Never was big into FPS because I never really had access to fast internet hookup. I just hooked up my internet to my PS3 after owning it for 2 years. I was getting internet free through my apartment building but they blocked P2P sites and PS3 somehow. I finally caved and starting paying for a separate provider.

Anyway, I loved Golden Eye for the N64! Played a lot of COD, seriously considering Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 1 is the fps that got me in the genre. MW is the only fps that I can play without getting bored. It is the constant progression, custom gun layout in the multiplayer that makes it interesting. Other than that it would be just another boring shooter.
