Discussion Topic for Episode 61 - What Makes You a Fanboy

All right lets face it, on some level we are all fanboys. How do I know this you ask, because you are a regular listener, and hopefully you are about to respond with a forum post. Its fine though, so long as you are not considering a demonstration where you are burning 360's I don't have a problem with it. In fact I know I am a fanboy for a bunch of stuff, so what we want this week is what makes you a fanboy. Is it specific game or series, a genre of games, even a TV show, or book? For the purposes of our little discussion I am defining fanboyhood as you being willing to buy something or defend something in the face of all logic or good sense, as in, I am going to get a PSP Go even though I already own a 3000 and 32 gigs of memory sticks. Get it to us by Saturday evening and we will read it on the show. Don't forget to become a fan of the show on Facebook, and if you do that post a picture of your gaming set up. Have a great week.

I guess I am a bit late to the party. last gen I only had a gamecube and did not find any interest in the ps2 or xbox whatsoever. (damn parents) but now with a little bit more freedom I got a ps3, 360, and wii. I like all systems but overall root for the ps3. Despite all the flaws the ps3 started with it is shaping up to be a powerful system with enticing games and the blu ray experience is just phenomenal. Seriously people saying blu ray is no biggie have not even watched a movie on a ps3 with a 42 inch sony bravia and 7.1 surround sound. People cannot go wrong with choosing a ps3 and if they have a hard time finding games for it then they must have standards out of this world. Also ps3 seems to push the limits in terms of entertainment and graphical power when it comes to stuff on screen and visuals. I agree that live is a unified and well though out service but is not worth the 50 dollars a year for online. The ps3 does everything right for free and only needs to work on a couple of blemishes like cross ingame chat. as for games the ps3 is the only system coming out with new ips constantly and continue delivering franchises we care about. Also the ps3 have true exclusives as people never question exclusivity unlike recently on the xbox lost planet 2, mass effect, splinter cell conviction, and section 8.
Hopefully people will begin to see why the playstation was so succesful in its ps1 and ps2 days and will begin to relate the ps3 with the same sucess. Because out of the 3 gaming companies sony tries harder to please the people with psp, ps2, and ps3, even SOE. as a whole sony pulls in revenue for 3 platforms and maintains over 25 first party studios to deliver gaming on all fronts. that is why I prefer sony over any other platform and will buy the ps4 day 1 and xbox 3 1 year after its launch and I won't make the same mistake with Nintendo. (Bought wii day one for 325 dollars) =(

Sorry for the long post but this is a great topic.

i am probably the biggest fanboy for Metal Gear series. no matter how convoluted and corny the story may get - im always going to defend it as a masterpiece of gaming excellence...

of course the story needed this:

Gotta second FF7. Although my RPG gaming at the time may not of had much of a range, I did play this game and thought it was almost groundbreaking game play. To have those extra side quests being optional absolutely floored me. I have defended all Final Fantasy games since then and will continue to do so.

Probably the Splinter Cell series is the best example. There were a lot of problems with Double Agent but I still defended it. As long as you can hang from stuff and snap necks, you're good in my book. By the way, one of you guys said how great Fallout 3 was a couple of podcasts ago, so I bought it on your recommendation and I love it. Never thought much about it when it came out, but it's awesome.

I am glad that our recommendation of Fallout 3 is working for you. I hope that we can continue give the people great games to play.

I had a hard time thinking of something for this. In my years of yore I was a huge fanboy of EA title sports games, most notably NCCAA football. But how big of a fan boy can I be when I am skipping that title this year. I am never giving EA money for the same thing over and over again. So I guess right now I am just a huge fanboy of Valve and Left 4 Dead. So much so in fact I forgive them for ripping everyone off and coming out with a sequel a year later, cuz I am buying the shit out of that game.

Oh and I guess I am a huge fanboy of Karl Marx. Fuck all you capitalist pigs. And big asses, love big asses too. Now Karl Marx with a big ass, that is something to get behind.....

Speaking of Karl Marx, make sure you visit hamsterfist.com, click on the Amazon links and buy, buy buy!!!!
